Collecting and Fabricating Landscapes
June 1 - 6, 2025

I am looking forward to returning to Tennessee and being part of the Arrowmont team this summer 2025. And I am excited to get to meet all the students in the Fabricating and Collecting Landscapes workshop as well as all the faculty, staff, and students at Arrowmont the first week of June.

Fabricating and Collecting Landscapes Workshop Description:

A vista just barely out of reach and simultaneously enveloping every moment, constructed landscapes can be awe-inspiring and mundane. In this workshop, students will collage materials into artworks that integrate form and content. The workshop will seek inspiration from natural landscapes like those surrounding Arrowmont, human-made landscapes such as mountainous landfills, symbolic landscapes representing levels of existence, surrealistic landscapes of one's dreams, GPS landscapes that help us navigate, and more.

Using collections and materials that students can gather by the hundreds or even thousands, students will learn material sensitive techniques for connecting, securing, and manipulating objects embued with memory into personal vistas. This workshop will explore the unique opportunities that each material and process can contribute as students synthesize and construct individualized landscapes. Students are encouraged to bring their own collection or share in Leticia’s collections to create a series of sculptural collaged landscapes.

Open to all skill levels.

Arrowmont has been described as magical, life-changing, inspiring, invigorating and more. This experience, meaningful, moving and affirming, is not something easily put into words. It is different each day and for each individual. The essence of the experience is grounded in exploration and discovery – conscious and subliminal. Whether walking through gallery exhibitions on the way to a studio, sharing meals and laughter, struggling to refine an idea, discovering new materials or collaborating with others, students are inspired by the time spent here.
