Exhibition - Birmingham, Alabama

Resident Artists Exhibition
The Sloss Gallery at The 600, Birmingham, Alabama
Exhibition Dates: August 9, 2024-July 31, 2025
Opening reception: August 8, 2024

My Summer 2024 Visiting Artist Residency at Sloss Furnaces Foundation concluded with an exhibition reception at The 600 as my sculptures joined artworks by recent and current Sloss Resident Artists. And a couple weeks after my reception, fellow Visiting Artist James Hayes added his sculptures made during the residency to the exhibition too.

I am grateful to everyone at Sloss for making these new sculptures and helping me discover and create multiple new directions and forms that will continue fuel my studio practice.

Sloss Furnaces operates one of the largest iron arts programs in the World, dedicated to iron and bronze casting as an art form which honors the industry upon which Birmingham was built.

“Sloss is currently the only twentieth-century blast furnace in the U.S. being preserved and interpreted as an historic industrial site. The dramatic scale and complexity of the plant’s industrial structure, machines and tools make the Sloss collection a unique contribution to the interpretation of twentieth-century ironmaking technology and presents a remarkable perspective on the era when America grew to world industrial dominance. At the same time, Sloss is an important reminder of the hopes and struggles of the people who worked in the industries that made some men wealthy, and Birmingham the “Magic City.”” - Sloss History
